History: The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet were founded in France, ca. 1650, and have self-identified with the post-nominal initials, 鈥淐.S.J.鈥� They made their first U.S. foundation, 1836, and engaged in teaching and evangelizing Native Americans through the following provinces:

1836-present	St. Louis Province (Archives: St. Louis, Missouri)
1851-present	St. Paul Province (Archives: St. Paul, Minnesota)
1878-present	Los Angeles Province (Archives: Los Angeles, California)
