History: The Diocese of Kalamazoo was erected, 1970, for southwest Michigan from territory in the dioceses of Grand Rapids and Lansing. In turn, Grand Rapids and Lansing were erected from territory in the Detroit Diocese, 1882 and 1937; and Detroit was erected from territory in the Cincinnati Diocese, 1833. Kalamazoo鈥檚 predecessors served Sacred Heart of Mary Mission (Potawatomi), Dowagiac/ Silver Creek, 1845-1870s (no longer Native) via Holy Maternity of Mary Church, Dowagiac.
