History: Founded in Quebec, 1850, the Sisters of St. Anne made their first U.S. foundation, 1866. They expanded in both countries and established the St. Joseph鈥檚 Province for Western Canada and the St. Marie Province for the United States. In Alaska, sisters first from the St. Joseph鈥檚 Province, and then the St. Marie Province, staffed a Catholic mission, school, and orphanage serving Native American children:
