As a barrier to French expansion west of Natchitoches, Spanish authorities founded Nuestra Se帽ora del Pilar de Los Adaes Presidio with Spanish-Mestizo soldiers, many of whom married local Caddo and Lipan Apache women (the latter were brought to the area as slaves); many of their families then populated the area |
