History: The Ursulines of the Roman Union made their foundation in New Orleans, 1727, and self-identify with the post-nominal initials, "O.S.U." Sister Mary Turpin, O.S.U. (mixed-race Illinois, 1709-1761), became the first native-born professed religious in the present-day United States. Today, the historic Ursuline Convent houses the Archdiocese of New Orleans Archives.
