History: The Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples is the department of the Holy See comprised of cardinals named by the Pope that organizes missionary activities worldwide. It was founded as the Sacra Congregatio Christiano Nomini Propagando (Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith or 鈥淧ropaganda Fide鈥), 1622, and renamed, 1988. Assisting it was the Pontifical Society for the Propagation of the Faith, founded 1822. In 1922, its jurisdiction (i.e. Paris Council, Lyon Council) was transferred to a General Council in Rome governed by Propaganda Fide.
