History: Founded in the Netherlands, 1875, the Society of the Divine Word missionaries self-identify with the post-nominal initials, S.V.D.鈥� They established their U.S. province, 1897, which later divided into four provinces. The western province was established, 1965, and the eastern and southern provinces combined, 1985.
