Description: Ledger book with several drawings by Ottawa Indians at St. Peter Mission (Ottawa), now Holy Childhood of Jesus Church, Harbor Springs, Michigan.
History: The ledger book is believed to have been made in 1838 when it became part of the ethnographic collection of Bishop Friedrich R茅s茅 (John Fr茅deric R茅s茅), the first Bishop of Detroit. Then, the Leopoldinen-Stiftung im Kaisertume Oesterreich (Leopoldine Society of Vienna) provided substantial funding for evangelization of Native Americans in the diocese. In gratitude, Bishop R茅s茅 gave the ethnographic collection to the society鈥檚 secretary, Johann Georg Schwarz, and eventually, it was transferred to the Ethnographic Museum.
