History: The Diocese of Albany was erected for upstate New York, 1847, from territory in the Diocese of New York. It lost territory as more dioceses were erected, 1872-1886. Albany initiated and sponsored the canonization causes of three Jesuit martyrs and St. Kateri Tekakwitha, and has supported associated shrines:

1884-2015 (Albany, 1847-present; transferred to Albany, 2015) Jesuits (Archives: St. Louis, Missouri) established and administrated Our Lady of Martyrs Shrine, Fultonville [Auriesville], New York
1884-1930 The Albany Diocese with Jesuits sponsored the canonization cause for St. Isaac Jogues, S.J., Ren茅 Goupil, S.J., and John Lalande, S.J., three Jesuit martyrs
1884, 1930-2012 The Albany Diocese with Jesuits sponsored the canonization cause for St. Kateri Tekakwitha (Algonquin-Mohawk, 1656-1680)
1938-present Conventual Franciscans developed and have administered the National Shrine of St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Fonda, New York
2015-present The Albany Diocese has administered Our Lady of Martyrs Shrine
