This collection consists of records related to Larry Tye鈥檚 research on Senator Joseph McCarthy from his book, Demagogue: The Life and Long Shadow of Senator Joe McCarthy. The files are arranged alphabetically by subject. These files include material on prominent figures, events and government proceedings related to McCarthy鈥檚 life and work as a Senator in the 1950s from other institutions and organizations across the United States. Biographical Note
Larry Tye graduated from Brown University, was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University (1993 - 1994) and taught journalism at Boston University, Northeastern University, and Tufts. From 1986 - 2001 Tye was a reporter at The Boston Globe, reporting primarily on medicine. Since 2001, he has run the Health Coverage Fellowship which trains writers on reporting critical issues such as public health, mental health, and high-tech medicine. In addition to Tye's book on McCarthy, his work has included titles as diverse as Father of Spin, a biography of Edward L. Bernays; Rising From the Rails, which explores the role that Black men working in Pullman's railroad sleeping cars played in the Civil Rights movement; and The Jazzmen: How Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, and Count Basie Transformed America.
