NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF RELIGIOUS VOCATION DIRECTORS RECORDS Historical Note/Scope and Content

Historical Note

The NCRVD, known originally as the National Conference of Religious Vocation Directors of Men, was founded in 1970 to coordinate the activities of three regional associations established in the previous decade and serve as their "official spokesman" and liaison with the Conference of Major Superiors of Men. To this end, it provided conferences and workshops, a journal and newsletter, and other vocation education resources. It worked closely with the other major vocation organizations--the National Conference of Diocesan Vocation Directors, the National Sisters Vocation Conference, and Serra International--as a member of the National Catholic Vocation Council. It changed its name in 1982 in response to he increasing involvement of women, and merged in 1988 with the NSVC to form the National Religious Vocation Conference.

The collection contains minutes of board meetings, publications, reports, and subject files.

Related material is in the records of the National Catholic Vocation Council, the National Conference of Diocesan Vocation Directors, and the National Sisters Vocation Conference in this repository, and in the at the University Archives and Special Collections, Loyola University Chicago.
