Library Information Technology

The purpose of Library Information Technology is to promote and facilitate the effective integration of technology to meet Library goals and to empower Library staff and patrons with a stable, secure and user-friendly computing infrastructure and customer-oriented technical support system.

Applications

Library staff use a plethora of software applications to perform their duties and to make library collections available to the public. Library IT is responsible for testing, installing, upgrading, and providing training as needed for these applications.

Desktops & Laptops

Library IT is responsible for setup, imaging, software upgrades, service and maintenance of PCs and Macs across the library, including associated peripherals (barcode readers, external drives, printers, scanners, etc.).

Infrastructure

Library IT supports and maintains applications hosted on various web hosting services in addition to supporting audio-visual equipment throughout the library. Library IT also supports other hardware across the library, including laptop checkout kiosks and self-checkout machines.

Learning Commons

Library IT Staff provides support to library users in the Learning Commons. This includes assisting patrons with applications provided on library computers (Mac and PC), copier/printer maintenance, WiFi access issues, and database access issues.

Digital Scholarship Lab

Library IT provides technology support for the Digital Scholarship Lab including support for web projects created or supported by the Lab.

Beaumier Suites Conference Center

Library IT staff provides support for the Center's computers and a variety of audio visual services for conference center users. For more details on support and services, please see information regarding the Technology and Equipment Available.

MARQCAT

Library IT is responsible for coordinating service and software upgrades to the library's online catalog and its associated products (Alma/Primo, FindIt@MU, etc.).

Websites/Web Applications

The Library's websites are comprised of thousands of web pages. While page content is principally controlled by department editors, the maintenance of the homepage, styles, and overall site maintenance is the responsibility of Library IT. Library IT also helps create and maintain custom web applications used by the library and its patrons.
