- Grading
- Students will be required to maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 (B), overall, for all courses taken (ideal is 3.2 or above for internships and jobs)
- Nothing lower than B- permitted in the program required courses. Program required courses are ALL courses defined on page 1, including Core, International, and Electives.
- Internships
- The sequence for internships is FINA 3986, for no credit, and FINA 4986, which receives 3 credit hours.
- Students enrolling in the first summer internship, must adhere to the following sequence:
- Apply for an internship
- Get accepted for the internship
- Obtain a job description from the company
- Apply for the internship, by going to the following link and applying:
- The Commercial Banking Program Director will receive an email asking for approval
- Approval will be given, and the student will receive a pin# to enroll in FINA 3986 for the summer. This must be done by start of the summer semester.
- Once a student finishes the summer internship, FINA 3986, students are notified by the Business Career Center once they complete, satisfactorily, FINA 3986 to enroll in FINA 4986 in the Fall or Spring semester (a pin# will be given), but the student MUST enroll to receive the credit.
- There is NO work required for FINA 4986 and there is NO tuition cost as long as the student is taking at least 12 credit hours (which is usually the case) in Fall or Spring.
- The internship, also, (FINA 4986) can count for a Finance elective, if needed.
- For double majors, if another internship is required, 3986, and if FINA 3986 is already used, then the student would be enrolled in BUAD 3986, with a corresponding BUAD 4986 if needed.
- Other Items
- FINA 3001 MUST be completed before the other required banking courses can be taken, with the exception of FINA 3002 Intro to Commercial Banking which, upon director approval, can be taken simultaneously (most appropriate for entering Juniors).
- FINA 3002 will be open to non-business students or any student that meets the prerequisites for the course. Students majoring in ECON, Accounting or other related disciplines would gain benefit from a broader banking course.
- Dual Program (AIM and Banking)
- Dual program students will not be allowed. Double counting courses, if in both programs, if permitted, would not allow the students to meet the requirements for both programs. There are 4 required courses between AIM and Banking, or 12 hours. If double counting these courses, or 24 hours, then the student would only need another 12 hours (4 course) which would not be feasible for the student to meet the requirements of both. It obviously would be acceptable for the common required courses to satisfy the requirement of each program, then the student would have to take another 10 courses (30 hours) to satisfy both programs.
- Transfer Students
- Permitted into the program with discussion with the Director, based upon course work taken, to date and ability to satisfy requirements (some exceptions to be decided upon by the Director)
- Late Start (Junior Year)
- Must be reviewed on a case-by-case basis with the Director. Students must have strong desire and motivation for banking to be accepted. A review of courses taken, will determine whether someone can feasibly satisfy the basic educational requirements the program has established.
- Switching between programs
- Not encouraged (reason for selection of preference up front). However, as someone progresses in one program and feels this is not for them, consultation would occur at the Director level (AIM/Banking) to discuss the merits of the change and whether that would be in the best interest of the student and whether they can meet the requirements.
