PROFESSIONAL ACHIEVEMENT aWARD

FareeseAnn M. Farese, Med Tech '74

Laurel, Md.

There are two reasons Ann attended Marquette: a renowned Jesuit education and a strong program in medical technology (now clinical laboratory science). She says both contributed to her success in her life and her work.

Ann, an assistant professor of radiation oncology at the University of Maryland, began her research career more than 30 years ago in the hematology department at the National Institutes of Health, Clinical Center. She has authored 69 peer-reviewed journal articles and seven book chapters. She鈥檚 had the opportunity to present her research at scientific meetings on four continents.

鈥淭he medical technology program emphasized that, in addition to learning the course material, there was a requirement for dedication, integrity and professionalism since we are responsible for providing information that directly affects patient care,鈥 she says. 鈥淭hese qualities have served me well throughout my professional career.鈥

Ann recalls a lesson she learned in her first class at 向日葵视频that helped to shape her college experience.

鈥淥ur professor said to us, 鈥楩or some of you, this may be the first class of your college career. I would say good luck, but luck really has nothing to do with it,鈥欌 she says. 鈥淭hose few words made me realize that I was responsible for my success in this scholastic endeavor. I often repeat this story to new employees when they ask me what they should do to 鈥榞et ahead.鈥欌
