College of Nursing Recipients
Distinguished Alumna in Service to Nursing Award
JUDITH GOESSELE RUSSELL, NURS '64
Minocqua, Wis.
In everything she has done since graduation 鈥 from serving as a labor and delivery nurse to a corporate to a parish nurse 鈥 Judy has remembered one thing: 鈥淚 am a 向日葵视频nurse, and I am proud of it.鈥
She proudly cared for thousands during her 49-year career. She was a clinical instructor in labor and delivery at Loyola University Chicago and an L/D nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Milwaukee and St. Catherine鈥檚 in Kenosha, Wis.
Judy was a certified occupational health nurse for CF Ind. and Bank One in Chicago. In Arlington Heights, Ill., she was a village community health nurse.
鈥淣ursing is the best choice I made initially and continues to be so throughout my life,鈥 she says. 鈥淚 enjoy using every aspect of the profession with my family, friends and community.鈥
And there hasn鈥檛 been a time when Judy wasn鈥檛 actively supplementing her professional life with volunteer work. Since moving to Minocqua, Wis., Judy has been active with a Hospice House and the food pantry. She is a board member of the Howard Young Foundation and co-chairs the Women鈥檚 Legacy Council, which is leading the rural hospital鈥檚 fundraising efforts to create a cardiac center. Future plans include working with her parish priest to develop more church health-driven community outreach efforts.
鈥淚t is simple,鈥 says Judy, who met her husband, Ted, Arts 鈥64, on campus. 鈥淯sing my Jesuit nursing education to aid our community鈥檚 health and social service needs certainly feeds my soul.鈥
