DR. FRANK R. PROBST, BUS AD '62, GRAD '64
Brookfield, Wis.
Frank’s commitment to ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵis legendary. He received two degrees from the College of Business Administration, then returned to teach undergraduate and graduate accounting courses for more than 40 years, influencing thousands of students in the process.
As a member of the college, he was chair of the Accounting and Finance Department and served on the Dean’s Advisory Committee, Graduate Committee, and Rank and Tenure Committee. Frank also was moderator of Beta Alpha Psi, the national honorary accounting student fraternity, and coordinator of the accounting internship program.Special projects included the Young Scholar Program, designed to acquaint high school seniors with careers in business and accounting, and a summer program in Innsbruck, Austria. A successful offshoot of the latter is the college’s international business program.
Despite the rapid growth of the global economy, some basic student prerequisites remain in place. “Graduates are expected to be able to think logically, research problems effectively and communicate — verbally and in writing — in an effective, logical and persuasive manner, “ says Frank, who served as chairman of the State of Wisconsin Accounting Examining Board and was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Board of Examiners.
Awards include the Wisconsin Institute of Certified Public Accountants Lifetime Achievement in Accounting Education Award, Outstanding Teacher Award from the Business Administration Student Council and many others.
In 2000, Susan Probst Lenny, Bus Ad ’86, and Richard Lenny, Frank’s daughter and son-in-law, established the Dr. Frank R. Probst Scholarship, which supports students completing Marquette’s master of science in accounting degrees.
