Distinguished Alumnus in Dentistry Award

Chuck F. Bohl, D.D.S.

CHARLES F. BOHL, D.D.S.,
DENT '71, GRAD '74

Brookfield, Wis.

What makes Dr. Chuck Bohl smile? Seeing others smile — especially when those others are his patients.

“Nothing’s better than the day the braces come off and we all see that fantastic new smile,” says Chuck, who maintains a private orthodontic practice in the Milwaukee area. “What could be a better reward than to see the confidence someone has in their smile?”

Chuck’s mom planted the seed of dentistry in him when he was in fifth grade, and from that moment on, his heart was set on the profession. He followed his heart to Marquette’s School of Dentistry, where his education was based on “clinical excellence and ethical practice” and “the call of St. Ignatius to care for others.”

Chuck is a member of the American Dental Association, Wisconsin Dental Association and Waukesha County Dental Society and is a diplomat of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Wisconsin Society of Orthodontists, and American and International College of Dentists.

But success, to him, isn’t merely a matter of professional affiliation. Chuck is involved in several volunteer activities, one of which is Smiles Change Lives, a program he helped establish in Wisconsin that links orthodontists willing to provide pro bono care with kids from families unable to obtain treatment. He was also a member of his church council and community Kiwanis club.

Looking back on his time at Marquette, he claims it was a top-notch education. But, clearly, he’s not the only one in his family to think so: His wife is an alumna of the dental hygiene program and his brother an alumnus of ÏòÈÕ¿ûÊÓƵLaw School. But the best education Check received? From his children. “Through them,” he says, “I’ve learned the really important things in life.”
